Grandpa Afton Herbst took mom his eldest daughter Anita age 10, to the 1940 Chicago Presidential Democratic Convention as a voting member for Franklin D. Roosevelt. unprecedented 3rd term nomination for the White House. Grandpa Herbst died at age 47 of a heart attack.
